For your final task over the 2 week break to prepare for the upcoming exam you must look at an example of a top grade response and a lower grade answer

Your objective is
To understand how the marks are awarded for the exam
To identify the arguments/debates that have been discussed by the student that awarded the L4 grade
To write up your notes into an essay plan

1. Read both & decide which is the L4?
2. How are they different?
3. Look at the mark scheme, what is required for a L4 (Analysis, Example, Terminology)

4. Copy the essay into Word & highlight in colour the aspects that cover:

Analysis

Terminology

5. Now underline the Argument/Debates the student puts forward to answer the question
6. Summarise these Arguments as a bullet point list - 5 points they have made
7. Write a 25 word commentary explaining how these arguments match & answer the question
8. Post 6 & 7 comment to this blog post

(I'll give you the answer first lesson when we return so make sure you have done this)

CD sells have gone down since 2006.

Independent Record labels have more of a chance at success due to digital technology.

People download illegally because music is expensive.

Independent record labels do not have an equal chance as success, because they do not have the funds to broaden their audience with advertisements ect and are always at risk of losing their most popular artists to large conglomerates such as Sony ME.

Illegal downloads reduces the activity of both independent and dependant record labels.

    7) Digital Media impacts the development of media intuitions and opinions audiences, the easy use of websites gives an audience a broader variety and creates equalled opportunity for record labels with less funding.
(32 words but its hard to cut it down. 24 not counting connectives ;D)

  2. Discuss the issues raised by media ownership in the production and exchange of media texts?
Rights and ownership in media has always been a touchy subject, production is when a company creates a media text for example in the music industry the Record label and artist produces music, horizontally integrated record labels also produce the cd’s and merchandise for distribution. Exchange for example, it when that record label sells their rights for example to a film so that the music they produced can be in that film.
Since 2006 cd sales have gone down 20% more and more people are illegally downloading music each year, this file sharing breeches the copy rights that the record label owns meaning that companies’ such at Sony Music Entertaining are losing profit.
When the companies realised that people are committing music piracy they called upon law enforcements to try and prevent illegal music downloads instead of trying to find an alternative legal music download method.
It is apparent that digital technology is growing by the second and the introduction of internet 2.0 meant that people want to access music digitally from websites and computers. Apple’s itunes is successful as they embraced the digital switchover and created apple an legal online purchasing site.
People illegally download because they feel that music is too expensive, using iTunes is a cheaper alternative too CD’s.
Yet because people now have cheaper or free alternatives to buying cd’s it has impacted the Record labels, EMI is going bankrupts and many artists have to go on the road and tour quite a lot in order to earn a living, increasing the changes of stress and breakup. As well as the record companies not having as much profit to put back into the company to continue to be creative and find more artists invest in better quality of music and visual effects (clothing brands/merchandise).
It is apparent that technology is evolving and people live faster pace lives, because of these changes people like to have music at their fingertips music, the change from not very practical Walkman’s to lightweight mp3 players means that music has easier to access via internet ect, easier access means easier ways to illegally exchange music, piracy is a very important issue to address for the Record labels and should embrace digital technology and promote legal alternatives for music exchanges.
